Strange Blue 2 at Varsity

9.Mar.2014 - Oxford

As the first indoors match, we felt the pressure to get SB off to a winning start. Our lines lay approximately as they had for MUOOR, if shorter (being a 5 v 5 contest and all). As we took the first point a little of my concern began to fade, but having never seen my team indoors (or Oxford's) I had no idea how it would go. As it turned out, we knew how to play indoors. The match was somewhat stolen by Danny, with enough run through D's and scores for an entire team, let alone one player. We stuck with man defence and played it hard, successfully shutting down their iso on a number of occasions and converting our turns into simple, patient points. We won by a convincing margin and things were looking good for outdoors.

Alas, it was not to be. Upon reaching the outdoors pitches, it transpired that the day had become a warm one. There was sun, a breeze which just seemed to make it worse and as it turned out these weren't our conditions. We technically started our game some time before we appeared to realise that we were playing, letting Oxford get a few key points up. We then proceeded to stall them temporarily, trading points, before they then started pulling away again. It appeared that we had left our A-game behind somewhere cooler and in a whirl of mild dehydration we conceded the game with a unplaceable lack of resistance.
