MUOOR 2013 - 2nds

9.Mar.2013 - 10.Mar.2013 - Cambridge

This week-end SB2 took plate (13th) at UMOOR. Read on for a full report.

11 guys turned up to Coldhams common after a gruelling travel that was as high as 15mins for some of us. We then recruited Eleanor from the Gonzo to take our numbers up to 12 for the 1st match. We were ready to play hard to try and get into the top half.

SB2 7-5 UEA2
We played well and took an early lead going in at half 6-3. After half UEA2 came back hard but we managed to hold them off and started the day with a win

SB2 3 - 11 OW
We started this game really well taking an early lead with a down wind point in which Matt got 2 layouts and earned himself Play of the Day. For the 1st half we kept Oxford close stopping them from pulling away keepign the score to 4-3 at one point. After this though it went down hill with our tiredness starting to show and a serious of mistakes at the edge of the end zone meaning Oxford pulled away and took the game.

We then had an hour break for lunch

SB2 - Warwick2 (we won but the score eludes my memory)
With our last man having arrived this game went well for us taking an early lead and keeping it. We managed to get our completion rate up but were still plagued by errors outside the endzone.

SB2 1-11 Loughborough1
Going into this game we knew this was going to be tough as these guys were top of our pool and it was. We really struggled to get it though their hard man D and when we did we just couldn't complete the last 2m. We did eventually get over the game line to avoid being bageled.

SB2 - Lincoln (we lost but the score eludes my memory)
This was the big game for us if we won this we were in the top half if we lost we were competing for the plate. We went out hard and played well but struggled to break them once again struggling with the last few meters.

So at the end of Saturday we came 4th in our pool meaning that winning the plate was on.

On Sunday we had a late start (not playing till 12.30 by which point the 1sts had finished for the day)

SB2 7 -2 Jesters 2
this was a great start to the day with our mistakes on the day before dropping out. We threw a cup zone at them which they struggled to break through and managed to get our error count down from the previous day through much chillier play and some expert handling by Ares.

SB2 9-6 UBU2
We managed some more recruiting out of Gonzo's helpers adding Sam Robin to our team giving us 14. This game was very important with the winner going to the plate final. The 1st half was close with neither team managing to pull ahead. But then just before half our zone (with some advise from the side line) really managed to click meaning we got a break (against the wind) to take half 6-5. After half our zone started working like a well oiled machine frustrating UBU 2 and allowing us to pull into the lead.

SB2 - Trent (we won this but in the excitement I didn't check the final score)
This was the big one, the plate final. It was straight after our match with UBU2 so we had no time to get cold. We started poorly being broken early on by a huck over our wall. But once we knew they had those long distance huck our 2 sets of back 3 were ready for them and managed to stop their effectiveness trapping them into throwing long swings that often lead to drops. We managed to break them several times and started to really enjoy ourselves breaking them several times before the match was over and winning the plate.
