Fi Chang, James Richardson, Katie Tidd, Perry Hong, Humaira Bhadelia
Ali Thomas, Jonny Slaughter, Adam Borchert, Elsa Matthus

SB1 v UEA 2 (13-1)

SB started off with a comfortable win. Not much to say really.

SB1 v LSE 2 (15-0)

They turned up with only 2 women, so we let them play 2 women every point against our 3 women. Our zone stopped most of their first passes, resulting in SB reaching hard cap.

SB1 v Essex (14-2)

The first real test of the day was matched with an increased intensity on defence by Cambridge. Most of their play went through their men (#playmixed), which we were able to stop, and on offence the SB women dominated.

SB1 v KCL (10-5)

Last year we had two very close games against KCL (winning one and losing one) and knew this would be the hardest test of the day. We knew they like to run an iso offence, so with a brief discussion before the game we played smart defence and calm offence to finish the day top of the pool.

SB1 v Brunel (6-5)

This was a very intense and well spirited game. Both teams were playing tight man defence and similar offensive styles. The timer went with the score at 5-5 and SB on offence, with a blade from Jonny to JR sealing the win. Brunel managed to win their remaining games to finish 4th and claim a well deserved place at div 2 nationals.

SB1 v Imperial (7-9)

This was a very frustrating game. Both teams started well, converting points with few turns. However, in the middle of the game we conceded a few sloppy turnovers which Imperial converted and we couldn’t catch back up in time.

SB1 v UCL (9-6)

We came in to this game knowing a win would guarantee nationals and after a poor performance in the previous game we came out strong. Playing against another iso offence we played smart defence to limit their dangerous throws. Our offence also seemed to click better and a couple of breaks resulted in a fairly comfortable game.

SB1 v Herts (4-9)

Herts were a really consistent team that all had great chemistry and no weak links. They also had Ernie playing an iso role which we couldn’t shut down this time due to his height. They didn’t make many errors, whereas we had a few drops in the endzone and overthrows.
