SB v Durham (7-10)

SB started the tournament slowly with a loss against Durham. A combination of Durham’s reliable long game and sloppy turns by SB resulted Durham winning convincingly. We came out of this game feeling frustrated as we didn’t play to our level.

SB v Sussex (4-6)

Our difficult start continued into this game. Sussex played mostly through their guys, who were very athletic and threw lots of overheads. Our offence still wasn’t clicking and Sussex took advantage.

SB v Southampton (9-3)

After our first two losses, we know this game would carry through to power pools so had to take a win. We managed to take a lead in a game with a couple of quick scores, meaning we were able to put on a passive zone. This tempted Southampton to take some riskier throws which didn’t come off. Perry was able to easily break the mark resulting in a number of easy scores.

SB1 v Nottingham Trent (7-4)

As in the previous game against Southampton we gained any early lead and played our zone. We were able to trade out points and win the game.

SB v Exeter (9-4)

Our final power pool game was a fairly comfortable win against Exeter. They were the first team to really dismantle our zone, so we resulted to playing hard man defence. SB finished top of their power pool giving them an 8 v 10 crossover the next morning.

SB v Portsmouth (8-7)

Portsmouth were a great team with brilliant spirit. They liked to play a zone on defence, with a tall, athletic guy playing deep. This meant our offence points involved lots of handlers passes (classic Cambridge) and taking our time until we found a gap to score. Portsmouth went up by 2 points in the middle of the game, but a great defensive effort and clinical effort meant SB took it universe with a Perry throw to JR in the endzone.

SB v St Andrews (8-14)

St Andrews were a very good team. They had pinpoint blades and scoobers, combined with big receivers. We performed well offensively in this game, but struggled to get Ds against a very different style of ultimate to ours. St Andrews deservedly went on to win the tournament.

SB v Sheffield Hallam (7-11)

This game seemed tighter than the final score suggests. Hallam had no weak links and were happy for anyone to be on the disc. A few sloppy turnovers from SB left us trailing by a couple of points and we couldn’t convert the turns we got.

SB v Exeter (10-8)

Playing against a team you’ve already beaten is always tricky as they have a point to prove and Exeter started this game much stronger. They were leading for the majority of the game, but an increase in defence pressure by SB resulted in SB taking the win and 7th place.
