Women's BUCS Day 2

22.Feb.2020 - BIRMINGHAM

4 - 9 against Loughborough

We arrived to a windy, cloudy, gusty, occasionally rainy BUCS Day 2 much more cohesive than Day 1. The conditions were truly a test of everything we had been training towards the last two terms, especially during our windy Lent sessions. This came through with a cohesive cup and arrowhead zone, which held Loughborough off for a significantly long time. However Loughborough's reliable handlers were eventually able to break through and complete a fair few deep shots. Similar to the first game of Day 1, we had even more new players joining us on the field, and it was wonderful to see the results of a high retention rate this year. This game we kept our options quite shallow, perhaps leading to some stagnation on the field. We also may have automatically constrained ourselves because of the small size of our usual Trumpington astro training space. It was ultimately our shaky offence that lost us the game, however our defence was very much on par with the intensity of Loughborough's defence.

6 - 5 against Birmingham

During the lunch break we discussed intiating a static disc with a handler weave and deepening our view of the field, which definitely caused us to step up our game from the earlier one. Our newly focused offence was significantly cleaner that Birmingham's, and our defence intensity was extremely high. Everyone was clearly keen to come back harder as we also had some amazing grabs and huge D's on the discs which were caught and carried by the wind. This culminated in the legendary Roan Talbut catching a macked disc on universe point, which then went through two up-the-lines through Izzy Crabb and then Sophie Tran to win us the point which would qualify us for division 1 nationals. Oh, did I forget to mention that we're going to div 1 nats? :)
